Tips On choosing A Good SEO Trainer

January 8th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

SEO is a super specialised area of internet marketing. There are a lot of announced experts yet the proof of the pudding comes when a company can systematically rank different types of web sites from diverse industries in different search engines. A top flight SEO business will have a range of skill sets available in its team if it is to be successful.

However, training is very different. Someone that is great at generating results may not be effective at passing on to others how they can get results.

Many SEO trainers are hands on SEO optimizers and they do not have a professional IT training background.

Here are five points to take account of when engaging a great SEO training company.

ONE:

Ask the SEO company if their trainers are SEO professional people as well as fully fledged IT trainers. Do they have the slkill, experience and skill to deal with people in a classroom situation so that the trainees can fully benefit from their SEO skills?

TWO:

Does the SEO trainer have working hands-on experience of ranking numerous unique types of websites on Google, Yahoo and MSN – can they show you the results! Or is the trainer a script teacher – they learnt from a book all the hypotheses but have not learnt the hard cold facts about SEO in the SEO ‘jungle’. Will they be able to lend to the table the help skills to solve YOUR issues on YOUR website? It’s a simple matter of asking.

THREE:

What technical backdrop does your SEO trainer have? Have they an extensive web development background so that they can deal all the core areas that they need to help you rank and learn about ranking your website. A top flight SEO expert teacher should have 2+ years’ web development skills in both HTML and programming languages combines as a minimum.

FOUR:

Does the training come with any followup support? Like all training – on the day everything is easy – yet after the course when you get back the story is different! What after training support is offered by the SEO training company in writing so that you know you will be able to integrate your training effectively.

FIVE:

What is the company’s current ranking on Google? Have you checked what their current ranking is for keywords like SEO, SEO training, SEO services etc? If they are not on the 1st page or the top of the second page in the local Google site then maybe they are doing training too early before they have established themselves properly. So go check their rankings right away or just ask them!

Rank No1 – Three Tips To Help You

January 8th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

Sometimes it’s just the tiniest of things that can make a Extended difference with SEO ranking results.

Here are three little things that will make a Bigger difference if you apply them all the time.

1. If you are going fishing make sure there are fish and not too many fishing people.

2. Title is everything.

3. Being bold makes you stand out.

If you are going fishing make sure there are fish and not too many fishing people.

When it comes to a more conventional world like SEO occasionally we forget common sense. So let’s remember!

In the SEO world making sure there are fish is making sure that there is traffic for a word we are opting to rank for. Use tools like Google Traffic Estimator (just Google it) if you are short on funds, and if you have a little bit of money, go get yourself a WordTracker subscription (they also have a free tool as well which is good). These (and many other traffic tools) will tell you that there are ‘fish’ for the keywords that you want to rank for.

The next part of the tip is not to fish were everyone else is fishing! This makes logical sense but often forget that it’s best to fish were there is little or no competition! So look for keywords that not may people have content written for but a lot of people are looking for.

Title is everything.

In the SEO world the page title is the ‘secret weapon’ of the top ranker! Here is 1 thing to remember, make sure that the page title is as close as possible to being 100% the keyword you want to rank for as possible. The page title is like the title of a book. If you wanted to learn about the sex life of a worm then a book title of ‘Sex life of a worm’ will grab your attention and you will know you have the book you want. On the other hand a title of ‘Worms and interesting facts’ will not grab you in the same way. Make your title tags (where ever you can) 100% the keyword/key phrase you want to rank for.

Being bold makes you stand out.

This is a very good onsite optimization tip if you want to optimise a page/blog entry for a specific keyword, make sure you embolden the keyword in the text 2 or 3 times. Don’t over do it of course.

Forget About All But The Description Meta Tag

January 8th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

There is only one meta tag that most search engines use – the description tag. It is not ordinarily used for SEO ranking purposes, but it is ordinarily used (including by Google) as the text on the search results listing.

The content of the description tag is used more often than not by Google when it displays the results pages for a keyword. It uses only the first 156 characters though so make sure if you are using it to check the length of the text. If you do not check the length your text will be truncated and it will look funny.

Microsoft Word has a great tool that will allow you to check the text length very quickly. This tool is visible on the status bar at the bottom of the page. To use it choose the text you want to control the length and then double click on the word count statistics box.

All meta tags should be at the start of the page inside the head tags.

Google is a little rogue when it comes to using or not using the meta description tag. When it does use it you can have full control of what is displayed to potential visitors but it will often vary what it uses at will with sometimes it just picking up a piece of text from your page.

If you want to control what Google exhibits then the very first 156 characters of text on a page should be highly controlled because if it does not use the description tag it will use this text.

If you have a flash site or just use pictures with a little text, you have a problem! We have seen Google pick up the alt text from an image and display this when it didn’t select to use our description tag. This will tell you to ALWAYS have some text on your page even if it is only 156 carefully chosen characters (including spaces).

SEO Tips – Setting Up WordPress Blogs

December 19th, 2009 David Anttony No comments

WordPress is one of the world’s major and most widely used blogging software package. When it comes to Search Engine Optimisation it is one of the best programs that you can use.

This is part of a series of tip articles just about using WordPress for leveraging on SEO.

Tip: Make sure the blog is on YOUR site

We are often asked

If you are using your blog to enhance your SEO then you HAVE to place your blog on your web site – it cannot exist on a another domain.

Do not even think about using a sub-web such as http://www.blog.myhotsite.com. Why would you use a sub web anyhow unless if you want a cool blog URL.

Sub webs are part of your site but they are confusing from an SEO position. If you want to have the blog content 100% connected with your website then make sure it is off a sub folder and NOT a sub web for example : http://www.myhappysite.com/blog.

Placing your blog on a sub web will not give you the same SEO advantage as having them as a sub-folder on your website. Sub webs may be treated different by different search engines – the result outcome will be unclear.

If your blog is currently on WordPress.com or Blogger.com then consider quickly to move it and it’s contents to your physical website. Shifting a WordPress.com hosted site to your own WordPress site hosted by you is easy – do a database backup and then set up WordPress on your internet site and then restore the contents. Moving a Blogger site to a WordPress site is not as easy. If you want to study how to do this then just Google – “moving a blogger blog to wordpress” and you will get some good hints on how to do this.

One fundamental thing to watch out for if you move a large blog to your site (with lots of content), that if you are currently ranking for a number of keywords, then your ranking can be gravely affected after you have added your blog content.

We have experienced client ranking drop after adding a lot of new content in the form of a blog to a clients sites. Adding a blast of new content ‘dilutes’ your current site content if the new content is NOT Search Engine Optimization optimized for the keywords that you want to rank for. Search Engine Optimize the content before making it live to avoid this dilution process. Taking the time to do this BEFORE you add it to your site will make a big difference to your existing ranking position.
